You could buy a bunch of ads or just start your own magazine.

Our newest client, Ink, reminds us of a situation comedy. Two effervescent young women running a successful photo direction business in a loft over a cool hair salon in the funky old downtown district, south of the tracks. It just sounds like the setting for a stylish prime time laugh riot. But they direct some serious consumer photo shoots for major national clients…and they’re out to make the world safe for original photography.

They’ve got a logo, they don’t need a brochure and they’re not ready to advertise. What they need and what we’re developing for them is an online magazine with a funny name. We’ll tell you the name when it goes live, but if you’re in the creative services business,

you might find yourself being interviewed about everything from your current bumper stickers to what’s the best way to brand products with photography.

Kelly Swanson and Natalie Jester, partners in Ink, will be editor/publisher of what will surely be a lively blogozine, but all kidding aside, it’s sincere marketing. See, their plan is to get out and meet the top art directors and brand managers in the country and their cause is to demonstrate the power of original photography. So, of course, they need their own magazine.

Marshall McLuhan would be proud of this medium-becomes-the-message project!
